256 unperfekte

Farbverläufe

#nowordart

color gradients

These days, it is easy to draw the optimum colour-gradient. On a computer with 16 million colors and 4K monitors, they are perfect and pixel-accurate. As a contrast to this, Danny Frede painted two hundred and fifty-six colour gradients by hand on November 24,2017. On paper, they became imperfect, two-tone and pretty analogous.

With his imperfect colour gradients, Danny Frede returns to the field of tension between digital illusion and artistic handcraft. He does not examine the individual pixels of an image enlarged with a brush, but rather the boundaries of perception between the individual components of a virtual image. In a total of 256 hand-made color gradients on paper, it explores the equal number of brightness gradations of an average image from a digital camera - between the greatest possible contrast and an imperceptible transition.
